Goodwill Clothing Drive:
Now through May 18th
You may have noticed the large blue bins located around the church with signs that read, "Goodwill Clothing Drive."  The Missions Committee is collecting gently used clothing and other small household items for donation to Goodwill.  Goodwill will use these items at its stores throughout Austin to provide career and job training to its clients.  Plus, Goodwill has agreed to partner with First Austin to donate back a portion of the proceeds from the items we collect toward the World Hunger Offering!  So clean out those closets, garages, attics, and hidey-holes.
Now through May 18, let's fill the Goodwill bins and support two great causes at once.

Serve our Homeless Neighbors:
IHN Returns June 1-8
After a short hiatus, Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) is back and better than ever.  IHN is a coalition of churches that have joined together to provide housing to working homeless families one week at a time.   The next week for First Austin to host the IHN families is June 1-8.  We need lots of volunteers: there is a place for you.  Volunteer opportunities include providing meals, staying overnight as hosts, and just hanging out with the IHN families.  There are plenty of spots for individuals, families (including kids!) and groups.

Texas Baptist Disaster Discovery
Did you know that Texas Baptists have mobilized to provide disaster relief in such far-flung locales as Arkansas and Mississippi (tornadoes), Colorado (flooding), Japan (earthquake) and even Austin (Halloween 2013 floods)?  Whenever disaster strikes, Texas Baptist Disaster Recovery sends out teams of volunteers to provide desperately-needed services to victims of natural disasters.  It's like the Justice League tempered with fiery sermons, a rigid committee structure, and frequent potlucks.  For more information, and to find out how to get involved, visit http://texasbaptists.org/disaster/.
