All Saints Prayer

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. We praise you for heaven's glories...for sins forgiven and death destroyed...for the promise that all tears shall be wiped away...We praise you for the great company of the faithful, those whom we have loved and those we have never known. For those whose home is with You in eternity, where all we have willed, or dreamed or hoped of good shall exist. We praise You for earth's glories, for beautiful things and people's kindness and patient love and lively memory and friends...long friends and new friends, all the many friends. Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of Your glory.

Lord of the heavnes and Lord of earth, take all our disappointments, all our shattered dreams, all those unfinished futures...take all our sourness and bitterness and despair-laced outlooks...take all the places where hope has been forgotten or is hidden or seems impossible and be New Light...be Fresh birth.... Be the green shoot that rises from a dry earth and in slender beauty, speaks again of trust in You...

We belong to You this day, O God, all the saints and all the sinners, all the departed and all that live here, we belong to You, all that expect and all that anguish, we belong to You ...and on this day, we give thanks for Your Power over death, and for Your Power to live...Hear our prayer in the name of the Risen Christ, Amen.

From worship at First Baptist on November 1, 2009.

Make a Day of It-Downtown!

On Sunday, October 11, plan to spend your day downtown, enjoying Austin’s “living room.” After church that morning, enjoy lunch at one of Austin’s fine downtown restaurants, then stroll the streets with the annual Downtown Living Tour, sponsored by the Downtown Austin Neighborhood Association (DANA). See how our downtown neighbors live – and consider how our church can reach out to these neighbors.

The Downtown Living Tour is self-guided and runs from noon to 5 p.m. Registration is at Gables Park Plaza, 115 Sandra Muraida Way (near Cesar Chavez and Lamar), from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., for both advance and day-of ticket sales. Parking is available for the Tour in the Gables Park Plaza parking garage.

This year's tour will feature 360 Condominiums, AMLI Downtown, AMLI on 2nd, Ashton, Austin City Lofts, Austonian sales center, Gables Park Plaza, Gables West Avenue, Plaza Lofts, Spring Condominium, and W Residences sales center.

Once ticketed, you will receive a wristband, goodie bag, and map of the tour area along with a suggested route. The tour is designed as a self-guided walking tour, and the properties are in close proximity to each other.

When you're done with the tour, relax with DANA at a Happy Hour at the Ashton 7th Floor Sky Lounge from 4 to 5:30 p.m. There will be an After Party to follow at Ligne Roset from 5 to 7 p.m. The night before the Tour, VIP ticket holders will enjoy music, food, and drinks at BoConcept from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Tickets are available through DANA's web site at www.downtownaustin.org . Prices range from $15 for the Tour itself to $30 for the Tour and VIP party. Children under 12 are free. Event proceeds benefit Ballet Austin and Humanities Texas.

Food for the Baptist Community Center

The current economic difficulties have created a higher than usual strain on food pantries. We support the Baptist Community Center with food drives twice a year, but this ministry is in need of donations to continue serving the hungry. Please donate food and money through the church office at 901 Trinity.

Midweek Moorings Interfaith Study: Through the Eyes of our Jewish Neighbors

For five weeks this fall, Rabbi Kerry Baker will join us at Midweek Moorings teaching and interacting with us about Judaism. This is an attempt for our two faiths, who come from the same forefather and foremother, to dialogue and learn from one another. It is important for us as a Christian faith community to know our Jewish roots and understand our Jewish neighbors.

Rabbi Baker has received training at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and the William Alanson White Institute (both in New York) and at the Family Education and Pastoral Counseling Center at the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas under the supervision of William Spong.

Rabbi Baker offers spiritual guidance and pastoral counseling to individuals, couples, families and other groups in person, via "skype" and other forms of video conferencing, and even through letters and email.

He has started a new website called everybodyneedsarabbi.com where he shares his belief that Judaism can speak to every person's life and to every human heart.

Join us each week at Midweek Moorings for $5 dinner, served from 5:30-6:15, for prayers and a hymn at 6pm, and for Rabbi Baker from 6:15-7:15.
