Gareth Lloyd-Jones is an Anglican priest of the Church in Wales who was educated at the Universities of Wales, Cambridge, Dublin, Yale and Jerusalem. In 1968 he gained a Fulbright scholarship to Yale Divinity School.

Since 1982 he has spent various semesters as visiting professor of Old Testament at the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest, of which institution he is an honorary Doctor of Divinity.  Ordained in 1965, Gareth worked for three years as a curate in his native diocese of Bangor, Wales. In 1970 he was appointed to teach at Oxford. In 1977 he moved to the University of Wales where he taught Hebrew and Old Testament studies and was Head of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies.

From 1971 to 1988 he was a member of the Old Testament panel responsible for translating the Bible into modern Welsh, which was published in March 1988 - the four hundredth anniversary of the first Welsh translation.
