Quite fitting a children's minister, Dorothy Strickland says that as a child she didn't dream of a particular career, she just wanted to be a kid as long as possible.  A graduate of the University of Houston with a degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Dorothy later received her elementary teacher certification from the University of Texas.  One more step in the process that brought her to the role of Minister to Children and Their Families at First Austin fourteen years ago.

Dorothy's love of children is evident as she cites becoming a mother and raising her family as the most exciting experience in her life.  Dorothy and her husband Robert both enjoy adventure, which they find through travel, recently having returned from Alaska.  One day they plan to retire to Wimberley where Robert has been building their "green" straw bale house since 2010.
Dorothy never imagined that she would be in a ministerial position but continues to enjoy the ways the work challenges her creativity and stretches her faith.  Her favorite thing about First Austin is getting to share life with people who are loving, warm, open, vulnerable, diverse, supportive, engaged, seeking and serious about their faith journey.  The parents of Dorothy's young charges especially thank God for her and the way she shares her gifts in such a loving and nurturing manner.
