Bella Voce, the
newest choral ensemble at Baylor University, is coming to perform at
First Baptist Church of Austin on Sunday, October 27th. You
will have two opportunities to see this highly select women's choir. Bella Voce will join with our own
Cantamos Choir to present a concert Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm in the
First Baptist Sanctuary. They will also be leaders in 11 am worship that same
day. All are invited.
Comprised of 36 singers in
the choir, the students are primarily music majors (choral music education,
church music, and vocal performance), although several members are non-majors,
representing various disciplines, at both the graduate and under-graduate
level. Bella Voce performs a wide and interesting variety of choral selections
reflecting various style periods and genres from the vast repertoire written
specifically for women's voices. The ensemble has been featured at Christmas at
Baylor, as well as at concerts throughout the state.
Dr. Lynne Gackle, Professor
of Ensembles and Associate Director of Choral Activities at Baylor, is the
founder and conductor of Bella Voce. Gackle
has conducted All-State choirs in 28 states and has served as president of the
American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) in Florida and the ACDA's Southern
Division. She has written several articles for the Choral Journal and is the
author of "Finding Ophelia's Voice, Opening Ophelia's Heart: Nurturing the
Adolescent Female Voice," published by Heritage Music Press. Gackle was
also awarded Baylor's OutstandingmFaculty Award in Research in 2012
