Are you ready to be God's hands in the World? Just put your faith into action and come volunteer your time to help build a home in partnership with a hard-working, low-income family in our community.

Seven area churches, including First Baptist Church of Austin, Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, Bee Creek United Methodist Church, Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, Riverbend Church, Hope Presbyterian Church and Church of the Savior, have committed to work together to build a home as part of Habitat for Humanity’s 2013 Fall Faith Build. A family with four children has been selected and the house plans have been approved. A five-bedroom home, which is a new concept for Habitat, will be built in the Sendera Hills neighborhood. It will be built close to several other existing Habitat homes, including a house that First Austin members worked on a few years ago.

The construction on the home will begin September 7th, but First Baptist Church of Austin’s tentative build dates are Saturday, September 21 and 28. Although the weather will be warm, the goal is to complete the home before Thanksgiving so there is a chance the family could actually move in before Christmas.

We will build with another church and assuming the schedule holds, work on those two days will involve decking, doors, side panel, soffit ledger, soffit, exterior trim, lap siding and fence posts.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Bill Eversole at bill@wjeversole.com. Let Bill know if you have a preference to work on a specific day or if you would like to assist with lunch preparation for the crew.

Whether you’re a skilled craftsperson or a novice who has never picked up a hammer, building with Habitat can be a life-changing experience both for you and the homeowners. Don’t worry, if you don’t know how to build a house, we’ll teach you everything you need to know!
